PERSONALITY: Matthew is a self dependent kind of guy. ever since his dad died and he became the man of the family, he's tried to push out every weakness he's had and to learn to depend only on himself, and his mother. and because of that, he hates to see people looking weak. he tries to bring the best out of people and tries to help them out as best he can. he hates to see bad qualities in people, though,a like cheating, bullying, etc, though he's not the happy go lucky or extremely joking kind of person.he's more of a romantic, though he tends not to advertise that too often.
he's much too trusting though, and feels betrayed when that trust is broken. such as having a friend who ditches him, someone he thought was nice, bullying. he always confronts it, unless its on a more emotional level, which then he tries to avoid everything and forget it by helping others. he despises prejudice and those that speak it due to having been effected of it as a kid, and often now a days.(though less often because they know now he knows a handful of nasty spells and can throw a nasty punch when agrivated). so as you can tell, he's easily tempered and more than often would prefer to settle something with a fight than words, but he's not stupid, he knows where the line is, though its not to say he wont cross it for a good reason rather than just his emotions.

HISTORY: matthew's history all starts with his mother, who grew up poor all her life. her father was always unemployed and his mother worked two jobs. she also had three other siblings, two of which died young. his mother made a point to get a good education and was the first in her family made it past high school, where she met matt's to-be father who was insanely rich, though she didn't know until she married him. but also, his parents didn't know about his cheriann until he introduced her to them as his wife. they instantly disowned him from their inheritance.
so they made a small little diner to call their own, after moving to a different city. they hired a chef and ran it themselves for a very long time until they had their son, matthew. he was a cute little baby, and they loved him, but the weirdest things started happening. sometimes, their inventory would multiply itself when he was hungry, or pots would expand twice as large. there was this one point in time where a mean man at the diner yelled at his mother and then floated away. just literally floated away and out of the building.
but when matthew was ten years old, his father, walking to the grocery store late at night was hit by a drunk driver. the months after that followed with grief, self loathing and depression. but sooner or later, he got...well, not over it, but he realized he had to step up and help his mother. he helped around the diner as much as he could (like cleaning tables and dishes, too young in his mothers opinion to wait tables, which her friends helped her out in that year of her husbands death and then after).
it didn't come out as much of a sunrise when he got his hogwarts acceptance letter, but he felt sad to leave his mother to work the diner by herself. hogwarts school funds helped him pay for books and materials during this time as well. the summer after his first year, though , after being ridiculed for being poor and of muggle blood, he went to his grandparents on his father's side, asking to help out his mother. they refused, saying thadnt approved of their marriage, much less of him, their son, so why were they obliged to help? his aunt, however, wasn't much better, but still helped out. she began to sent his mother a bit of money every month just to help out a bit, so she could afford some extra help.
the next few years were fun. he still worked at the diner during holidays and summer vacation, made many friends and even a girlfriend or two. his last one was a bummer, leaving him extremely confused about life. his girlfriend -or so he thought- of three months had told him she was only using him for sex and never liked him as he liked her, dumping him.
