PERSONALITY: Underneath it all, Elizabeth is a very kind and gentle girl. Since she has been treated badly, she doesn’t want others to feel as bad as she has felt at times. Whether it’s something small like holding a door open for someone, or donating blood, Lizzy just wants to help people. She often finds this hard, seeing as she needs to help herself before she can help others. Of course, that brings out another aspect in Liz. She tries to put others before herself, and is rather selfless. If she can’t fix her own life, why not try to help someone that deserves it? Even when she isn’t helping someone, she still tries to be nice to them. No one deserves to be mean to, unless they’ve done something horrendously awful. When she’s having a good day, she’s the girl that will offer you a friendly smile or a warm hug. The hug may to be to see if you actually exist, but once she knows you do, it’s a hug none the less.
Unfortunately, that’s just the inside of Beth. Sometimes it goes on the outside, but most of the time her shyness overwhelms her. No one can really be blamed for that but herself. She created a shell for herself, and frankly, it worked. The people at her new school don’t know about her illness, and she plans on keeping it that way. When she’s alone in her room, she will occasionally talk to the people she sees. There’s a very nice old lady she sees every once and awhile, and there’s also a toddler who likes it when Lizzy reads to her. Since she has a caring nature, she often reads to the little imaginary toddler. There’s no real harm in it, and sometimes it cured her boredom.
She uses her hair as a veil so that she doesn’t feel peoples’ eyes on her as she works on her school work. Though no one real is staring at her, she knows that her schizophrenia often acts up, and she feels those eyes on her. She is frightened easily because of the torment some of the people she has imagined have brought upon her. They’ve frightened her with disturbing violent images that she can’t seem to erase from her mind. She dislikes being in the dark, or being in small, enclosed areas. Nor does she like basements or forests. Around new people Liz is extremely nervous. There’s always a chance that they’re not real.

HISTORY: All was lovely and peaceful for Maya and Elton Henderson, the newly married couple from San Francsico, California. They lived in a little house with a puppy and a baby on the way. If only they knew the trouble this child would bring, their happiness would go by another name. Sixteen years ago, Maya gave birth to the beautiful baby girl named Elizabeth Ava Henderson. She seemed perfect and irreplaceable; at first. For the first few years of her life, Lizzy seemed perfectly normal. She was shy, but she still talked to the other children at preschool. She did seem to have a lot of imaginary friends, but her parents didn’t mind this. Ava wasn’t the first child to have imaginary friends; they thought it was normal. However, they were oh so wrong. So very wrong indeed.
When Beth was seven years old, her parents began to worry. She would start screaming at night and she would suffer from hallucinations. Her parents originally thought that these were just bad dreams that she thought were too real, but it turned out to be something more serious. After they grew tired of waking to hear her tell tales of the people standing over her at night, they took her to see a psychologist. After several long, in depth meetings with the doctor, he figured out that Beth had schizophrenia. She could see people that didn’t even exist, or she would hear voices in her head. Sometimes it was a dangerous mix of the two. She didn’t realize that this wasn’t normal, though. She thought it happened to everyone, but once the doctor explained what was going on, she went into a downward spiral.
Elizabeth didn’t want to take medication for her illness. Her parents made the final decision however, and she ended up on medication for a month. To her, she felt like a zombie. She was emotionless, tired, and she just didn’t want to do anything. Seven year olds weren’t supposed to act that way, so she flushed the pills down the toilet and refused to take them again. For several years after that, she tried to live as a recluse, basically. But even curled up on her bed she would never be alone. The voices would try and make her do things, or they would tell her lies. She refused to do as they told her, seeing as they often asked nasty things of her. Tears would have a constant presence on her face, and her parents would have to comfort her until she feel asleep.
Unfortunately, Maya and Elton no longer were the happy and loving people they once were. They saw their daughter as an imperfection, a flaw. She was a horrible dent in their marriage, and she made everything go wrong. Elizabeth was hurt beyond belief, but she never let it show. When she was 9 years old, a man she was imaging tormented her so badly that she was about to kill herself. Her mother found her trying to hang herself from a tree, though she failed horribly. That was when her parents had the last straw. They wanted to be happy again, and they could only be happy without her. They put her in a mental institute; in plain terms: an insane asylum.
That term was not just used for the sake of it; there were some seriously deranged people where she was. Beth seemed normal in comparison to a lot of the other patients, and was very frightened by them. She spent two years in the institution, but she didn’t really talk to anyone but the nurses. Everyone else scared her too much. She learned how to hide that she was seeing people. If someone didn’t really exist, she couldn’t feel them. Her hand could go through them, almost as if they were a ghost. Problem A solved. The hearing was also difficult. She couldn’t make the voices go away, not without medication, so instead she tried to ignore them. Today she still ignores them, but sometimes it’s really hard.
When she was 11 years old, they let her out of the place. Her parents took her back into their home, but not exactly with open arms. While she was gone, Maya and Elton had rekindled their romance, and they were back to that marital bliss. Elizabeth became even more quiet then before, and would often shut herself in her room for hours on end. She knew she was disturbing her parents, and she didn’t want to be a bother. She just wanted to be loved by them, but she knew they saw her as broken and damaged. So, around the house was basically a ghost. She didn’t bother them often, and they seemed generally pleased with that.
That same summer, she got a letter from Hogwarts. She came from a muggle family and so they were incredibly skeptical about believing in any of that sort of thing. But her parents’ wish to have a normal family without a deranged child caused Elizabeth to beg them to let her go. She just wanted to leave so they would never have to deal with her again. Now she only visits them in the summer when Hogwarts is closed, and fears what will happen to her in a few years when she graduates.
