SO WHAT IF YOU CAN SEE THIS DARKER SIDE OF ME- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Winter had kicked in and made itself right at home in Hogwarts. Students spent their nights curled up in the armchairs by the fireplace in the common rooms and racing indoors to evade the cool. Some were beginning to get antsy; they did not do well with their limited freedom. Others, forced indoors, accepted their fates and resorted to studying, reading, or other very stationary, indoors activities. This was especially the case for fifth-year Ravenclaw Travis McLaggen, who was convinced that his O.W.L.’s were just around the corner and that he needed to prepare. Though many of his classmates assured him and themselves that there was plenty of time to study, he disagreed, and spent hours on end every night with some book or other cracked open (not that this was very different from any other day or year.) So, on this average weekday afternoon, Travis hauled his books and papers and other materials to the library as he does every day after classes had ended. Surprisingly, as he walked in the doorway, he noticed most of the tables were already occupied. He wondered vaguely why the library was considered such the hotspot tonight; it looked as if it were exam time, although it wasn’t. Perhaps some of the older or younger students had largely important tests this week. Disregarding it, Travis snagged what seemed to be the last open table as quickly as he could. Far from his ‘usual’ table, Travis settled in, propping his feet up on the chair across from him. This move helped emphasize his desire to not have people sit with him. Sure, there were plenty of tables that were semi-occupied – but his distaste for the general population of Hogwarts drove him to sit by himself. But anyway, what else was new? He opened a book at random and scanned the page for new information. None popped out at him. As arrogant as it may sound, it was painfully frustrating to try to be good and study when you already knew all there is to know. That would explain the eye-rolls he got if he ever told anyone that he was studying. Sighing slightly, he decided it would be best to at least accomplish something, and pulled out a piece of parchment to begin an essay for Potions class. Blocking out his surroundings completely, he began to write in his signature sloppy, impossibly fast handwriting. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Wordcount: 400 words Tag: Kaleigh Outfit: hereLyrics: Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace & Headstrong by Trapt Notes: (: Made-By/Credit: Hondo Pirate @ Caution - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Kaleigh sighed as more people climbed inside the fat lady's portrait and into the common room. She was infront of the fireplace hoping to get a little reading done, but every single person who walked into the room, she would get distracted. She finally just gave up and shut her book with a snap. She had enough of the people walking in, talking loudly and either moving to where she sat or stomped their way up to the dormitories.
She got up with a sigh, gathering her belongings and quickly walking towards the portrait and down the staircase. Once a way from the Fat Lady's portrait, she sighed, leaning on the stair's railing. She was getting annoyed that she kept getting interupted, though she would never actually do it to other people. She wondered where she could go now, she could go out onto the grounds and sit on a bench , not to far from the wonderful, warm castle was or she could go to the library, it was her second home in a way.
The wonderful library filled with all the books that you could possibly imagine stacked high in a pile or on a bookcase. She loved the library, it helped when she wanted to study and it helped when she wanted to be alone and she knew almost no one else would be around to find her, except the librarian, of course. She walked to the fourth floor and looked inside the warm, busy library.
She saw that most all of the tables were taken, she sighed to herself, that was great, how was she supposed to actually get any reading done? She then wondered why all the tables were taken, was there an exam she didn't know about? If there was, she would pass it, she had read almost every book on every subject she had, from the past holidays where she didn't go home.
Kaleigh scanned the croud of students and spotted a fifth year Ravenclaw that she knew, sitting at a table, feet propped up in a chair directly across from him. She sighed and walked over to the table slowly, noticing the piece of parchment infront of him and noticing his fast handwriting. She cleared her throat, hoping to grab the young man's attention.
She watched him to see if it would grab his attention, " Travis, can I sit? Everywhere else is full." she spoke softly to him. She hoped that he would let her sit with him, she didn't want to go ask another student. She was shy and nervous infront of people she didn't know, it was with everyone. Even if he said no, she could always outside and read to herself, not many people would be out there. Though she wouldn't like to be pelted with snowballs by bullies, then have pneumonia later on, because of the brilliant idea to throw her in the black lake.

Or perhaps it did; he was unsure of how much time had passed by the time he realized that his focus was no longer on his essay. His head had been resting in one hand as he wrote with the other, not fully comprehending what he was writing. When he finally realized that he had taken to gazing out of the window and cursing the weather for being so cold, he decided to reread what he had and see if he had made much progress. His eyes scrolled down the parchment, having to reread every line several times over before his mind could process it. It was very rare that his brain was so slow; however, he supposed he made up for it because what he had written so far was very well-written and accurate. It had also come to Travis’s attention that he had drawn in the margins of his textbook when he wasn’t writing. How he can write an essay and draw whilst daydreaming, he had no idea, but somehow he pulled it off. And as he noticed, the librarian passed his table. He slammed his book shut immediately, knowing that she would have him thrown out and in detention for doodling in her books. Luckily, she hardly paid him a passing glance; she, like many other teachers, was under the impression that Travis was a hardworking, studious teen – which was true, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t mess around every once in a while. When the coast was clear, Travis opened the pages of his book again, removing his wand from his pocket in the process. Pointing his wand at the pages, the ink that was his interpretation of the scene outside the window began to remove itself from the pages. He must be severely down with spring fever, because lately all he had been putting on paper had to do with the outdoors. Sports. Running. Winter at Hogwarts really got him down – well, moreso than usual. Getting annoyed with how slow this process was, Travis decided to leave a few indecipherable splotches of ink on the pages for now and continue writing. As his hand began to take off in an impossibly fast scrawl once again, a voice spoke from beside him. Instinctively, Travis shut the book again, before looking up at who had spoken to him. “Oh, it’s just you,” he said, opening the pages yet again and clearing out the last few, ink blotches so he could read the passage beneath them. ‘You’ was Kaleigh Wallace, a sixth year Gryffindor who he’d encountered several times. They had had their disagreements, if you could call them that, but all in all there was no extreme dislike between the two. As much as he really didn’t want to, he said, “Yeah, fine. Go ahead and sit.” In a surprisingly polite move, he slid his enormous stack of books closer to him to make room for her enormous stack of books and slid his feet off of the chair across the way. “There’s no need to be so bashful,” he noted as well, removing his gray eyes from his paper and glancing at his companion. He noticed Kaleigh’s shy tone, and decided to point it out, despite how much it was the pot calling the kettle black. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Wordcount: 565 words Tag: Kaleigh Outfit: hereLyrics: Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace & Headstrong by Trapt Notes: (: Made-By/Credit: Hondo Pirate @ Caution - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Kaleigh watched the other students, they were too busy to look up at her and she was grateful of the fact. She would have just blushed and looked down, she was the ever so shy one. She was greatful that she could always read in the library, it was a favorite spot, besides the fireplace in the Gryffindor common room. She would always find the advanced copy of every subject she would be taking and study them carefully till someone found her. She was always there or so people said. They would say she was inhabiting the library, most of the girls dorm would say they never saw her except in the Great Hall or in Classes, and the library of course. Other girls in the dorm would ask who you were talking about.
She was invisable to many, but some saw her, like Travis. They had their share of arguments and disagreements and it would probably lead her to huff out of the room, not wanting to argue with the fifth year Ravenclaw any longer, but she didn't dislike the boy. She sighed, she hoped it wouldn't be the case today, she really didn't want to argue with the boy. She looked out the window, winter was her favorite time of the year. Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day. Kaleigh didn't have a valentine this year and she knew she probably wouldn't, nobody would notice she wasn't there. She would just slip out of the castle, no matter how cold it was outside. She didn't want to be reminded that she was alone, again.
She didn't have many friends, she had friends that weren't to, well, good to her. It didn't mean that she wasn't loyal herself, it just ment that they didn't want anything to do with her and she was just their bookworm to help them get good grades, not a true friend. She was always the one to be asked to help them with their studies and she would help them, she was a very helpful person, yet she wouldn't do it for them. And she didn't have a crush on anyone she knew, at least she thought she didn't.
She looked at Travis when he spoke and sighed, she knew it was going to be one of those days. He was busy and she could come back later, she didn't need and argument today. She looked at Travis and smiled softly at him, it was surprising that he moved his books so she could sit her's down. " Thank you." she said softly, almost a whisper. She set her books down on the table and took the seat across from him. Then he mentioned her being bashful and she blushed. She always blushed when someone brought it up again, it was how she was she was shy. She wasn't very social, she picked a book up and hoped he would drop it, but knowing him, he probably wouldn't. She tried to look like she was concentrating on her book and waited for when he would say something.

SO WHAT IF YOU CAN SEE THIS DARKER SIDE OF ME- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The more people that clustered around him, the more uncomfortable Travis got. It was a directly proportional relationship. He was not a people person, and that was a fact. That it was just Kaleigh and not a huge group of people was a slight comfort, but the change in behavior was still noticeable. If he was left alone, Travis was very unnoticeable, quiet, preferring not to get involved in anything going on around him. But as soon as he was expected to communicate, to socialize, things went downhill quickly. It wasn’t that he was talkative; no, he never talked more than he should. He was very careful about his words. But his general I-don’t-give-a-damn attitude tended to get him in a bit of trouble every once in a while. Not that he cared. And so when Kaleigh’s face grew redder with every passing moment, she was just setting up Travis’s sharp, blunt-to-the-point-of-hurtful remarks. “Are you hot or something, sweetheart? Your face has taken on this unhealthy shade of scarlet.” His words, which may have been of concern coming from any other’s mouth, were blatantly dripping with sarcasm. You’d have to be completely deaf to not notice the intentional spite in his question. Travis never tried to start fights, especially not with Kaleigh, with whom he often disagreed with. She was just such an easy target, and so unwilling to fight back, that he honestly could not help himself. Acting rude was just a way to express his discomfort in social situations and his disdain for the majority of the population. A guilty conscience was something that Travis seldom had to worry about; his mind worked so quickly and accurately that he could act without regret or second-guesses. And though some might feel ashamed for treating others badly, he could care less. Travis had subconsciously been tapping his quill on the table; for how long, he didn’t know, and the only reason he noticed was because he had once again managed to get ink all over across library property. Being confined indoors made it difficult to sit still. Perhaps it would be better to use this excess energy on something productive, such as his half-finished essay. As he turned to start on it for what seemed to be the hundredth time, he realized his jumpy hands had managed to smear his already-indecipherable handwriting. Sighing in frustration, he concluded that he was far too lazy to clear off the ink with his wand like a normal wizard would do, and took the parchment in an enormous hand, crumpled it with one strong grip from his hand, and spotted the nearest wastebasket. He glanced quickly at his companion; her head was shielded behind a book. “Over the head,” he announced, tossing the ball of paper as close to her head as possible without hitting it, and into the basket behind her. Knowing this would get on her nerves eventually, he made a game of tossing random trash into the basket, close to her but not hitting her. Perhaps he would become more obnoxious than everyone else she’d come in contact with, and she’d just give upon sitting with him and leave, annoyed, as usual. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Wordcount: 531 words Tag: Kaleigh Outfit: hereLyrics: Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace & Headstrong by Trapt Notes: My Immortal is an amazing song!! Kaleigh watched Travis, she knew he wasn't much a people person, it showed when he was around alot of people. She could see his change in behavior, she didn't know if she should leave the boy alone or just continue trying to look like she was actually concentrated on her book. She glanced at her book, it was on learning how to speak german. When did she pick up this book? She had no purpose, at least in her mind, to be learning how to speak german. She told herself that she would return the book later and sat it down, picking up another book in the process.
He had seen her blush and she knew he would have seen it, it was like she was red, cherry tomato in the croud of students. She knew he would say something and she was right. She looked up from her new book in her hands and almost glared at him, she was already slightly aggravated from having to relocate to the library and to find it filled with students, forcing her to sit with Travis. She really didn't mind sitting with him, it was just his remarks about her shyness and how she blushed all the time, it just got on her nerves.
" Just go back to your studies, Travis. And, please just stop with the remarks, its really not neccessary." she said, now actually trying to concentrate on her book. She wasn't a fighter and she never wanted to fight people, but prevoked and aggitated enough, she will actually fight you. She started to read her book, it was on charms. She was excellent in the subject, like all of them, but she wasn't a genius or anything like that. She just made it so she would pass the subject, but she never liked the essays, who liked essays? Someone who actually could read and write fast and actually retain some of the information that he/she had read. She couldn't stand some essays, like potions for example.
She looked up and over to Travis, who was tapping his quill, it was getting on her nerves. He had managed to get ink all over the book infront of him and she shook her head. She went back to her book only to hear crumpling partchment and feel the little partchment ball fly over her head and into the nearest waist basket, which was for her luck, behind her. She almost growled in frustration as he started to throw more trash over her head and made a game of it. She put her book down, more like slammed the book down and glared at him. " Do you have to do that?!? Some people are trying to read without someone rudely tossing random trash over her head!" usually Kaleigh never spoke like that to Travis, it was her lashing out from annoyance, why did he have to be so rude? His remarks, really hurt, but she didn't dare show it to him, thats the reason she got up and left usually. She watched him waiting for his reaction, why did he have to be so rude and cute....wait, CUTE!? When did she ever think he was cute? She blushed and ran out of the library, leaving her books in the process. She didn't think he would follow her, but she did leave abit to quickly and she left her books. She stopped outside in the hall with her back against the castle wall, facing away from the library. She didn't think he would actually care to come and find her.

She was so quiet and reserved that he could usually just walk all over her. To hear her snap back at him was quite the surprise. Well, it wasn’t really a ‘snap,’ but for her, any retaliation was. However, she had a point; he had come to the library to study and finish up some homework, as much as he didn’t want to. So he returned once again to his essay, trying to first decipher what his handwriting even said and secondly to remember where he was going with it. When given enough time, the chemicals in salamander blood and pomegranate juice will blend to create a substance with strengthening enzymes… The open book next to him was hardly getting any attention; most of his homework was done off of his own knowledge. Travis would be lying if he said he was just a natural at Potions; that he was an expert in the ways certain ingredients interacted with one another. He was completely well-rounded; he seemed to excel in every subject without any effort, earning disdain from many of his peers. But to be fair, he also worked several times harder than the others. And once he got to writing, he produced words like a machine; in fact, as he noticed right now, he had actually gone above the parchment limitation that was meant for the essay. He never understood why teachers would assign an essay of a certain length; what was the problem if the students wanted to do more than they were told? Infuriated with himself for allowing this to happen, he crumpled this paper into a wad as well and tossed it into the wastebasket behind Kaleigh. Once again, she snapped at him, though in this case Travis wasn’t surprised; he had been purposefully throwing things by her to get her to react. However, he didn’t expect her to get up and flee the library, face growing red once again. He sat, staring at the empty seat for a moment, bemused, before shrugging it off and coming to the conclusion that girls were inexplicable sometimes. With that, he pulled out a clean piece of parchment and began writing again. A few minutes later, he glanced up from his paper for whatever reason and noticed that Kaleigh’s pile of books still remained in her now-empty spot. Sighing, he had a momentary inward battle of whether he wanted to leave it or go find her. If anything, it was the desire to not finish his essay that got him out of his seat. However, before he left he pulled the book she was reading toward him and flipped to a mostly-blank page. Quickly, he drew up a scratchy, plain drawing of a flower with a smiley face in the middle for her. Exiting the library with the books, it did not take long for Travis to find the owner. "You didn't get very far," he said coolly, unable to help a sarcastic comment from slipping off his tongue. He knew she wouldn’t appreciate it, but it didn’t phase him. “Are you coming back in? I brought these out just in case you weren’t,” he explained, holding out her stuff to her in a sort of peace offering that wouldn’t last. “What’s your deal, anyway?” he asked. He supposed it was the closest thing he could get to saying ‘are you okay?’ If she didn’t want to put up with him, it wasn’t anything he wasn’t accustomed to, but he had to get work done no matter what. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Wordcount: 602 words Tag: Kaleigh Outfit: hereLyrics: Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace & Headstrong by Trapt Notes: Here is a link to that li'l thing he drew in her book Made-By/Credit: Hondo Pirate @ Caution - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
